Takinoya sits off the Noboribetsu resort street, reached over the Kusurisanbetsu River by a footbridge the inn built for its own guests. Thirty rooms in seven types face a Japanese garden. Twelve — ten 83 sq m Japanese-Western rooms and two 92 sq m suites — have a private open-air bath fed straight from the source. The house is blunt about the rest: its own booking pages state that in those types the in-room bath is not hot spring water.

There are two bathing floors, each on a different water. The top-floor open-air bath 雲井の湯 (Kumoi-no-yu) takes the salt and iron springs, 14:00–22:00 and 5:00–9:00; the basement bathhouse 地縁の湯 (Chien-no-yu), with its own open-air bath, takes the radium and sulphur springs, 15:00–24:00 and 5:00–10:00. Four springs in all, from the Jigokudani source, cloudy white; the Japan Spa Association’s register puts the source at 72.5°C. The rooftop bath may be heated and recirculated in some weather. No bath can be booked for private use.
The kitchen descends from the founding family’s 料亭 — a traditional banqueting restaurant — and cooks 懐石 (kaiseki), a fixed run of seasonal courses. Dining is always private: the 「原生林」 (Genseirin) rooms are individually partitioned, breakfast 7:30–9:00 and dinner 17:30–19:00, while the twelve open-air-bath rooms are served in the room.
Check-in 14:00–18:30, check-out 11:00; arrive after 19:00 and dinner cannot be prepared. Children stay, pets do not. Bathing tax is 300 yen per person, plus a Hokkaido accommodation tax of 100 to 500 yen from April 2026.
Why we chose it
Noboribetsu is famous for its ten spring types, and Takinoya splits its bathing across two floors on different waters, naming which spring is where. It is also candid where inns are usually vague: its own booking pages state that the in-room baths outside the twelve open-air-bath rooms are not hot spring water, and that the rooftop bath is sometimes recirculated. The banquet room reuses pillars from the founding family’s restaurant.
