Ryokan in Jozankei

Jozankei is a hot spring town in the mountains of Sapporo's Minami ward, roughly 26 kilometres south of the city centre, strung along the gorge of the Toyohira River inside Shikotsu-Toya National Park. A direct bus from Sapporo Station reaches it in about an hour. The water is a sodium chloride spring, clear and faintly salty, hot where it surfaces. The town traces its founding to 1866, when the ascetic monk Miizumi Jozan was led to the source by local Ainu people and gave the place his name.
