A ten-room hot spring inn three minutes' walk from Gora Station in Hakone. Every room is a Western-style twin suite of 51 to 55 square metres with its own hot spring bath, fed continuously from the property's own source. Eight are open-air; the two barrier-free rooms become semi-open-air when their windows are opened fully. The water is a simple, weakly alkaline, hypotonic spring from the Gora Onsen source, drawn at 38.6°C and reaching the tubs at 42°C. All bathing is in the rooms. Dinner is a kaiseki course and breakfast a Japanese set meal, both served in the room, as are check-in and check-out. There is no lunch or tea service on the premises.
The inn is built around guests travelling with dogs. Dogs stay in the room, every room type accepts them, and there is no restriction on breed or size. Five rooms have a private dog run; there is also a shared 42-square-metre run laid with hinoki wood chips, and a self-service dog spa fed by an alkaline spring drawn on the property, reserved for private use by asking staff during your stay. Staff trained in animal care are on site. Dogs may not be bathed in the room's own bath.
Children are accepted and baby beds are free with advance notice, though two rooms, Deluxe Twin F and G, do not take children under junior-high-school age. There is no station shuttle.
Why we chose it
Ten rooms, each with its own spring-fed bath, and meals, check-in and check-out all handled in the room: little here requires leaving your own door. The provision for dogs is specific rather than decorative, running to private runs attached to five rooms, a reservable dog spa fed by an alkaline spring drawn on site, staff trained in animal care, and no limit on breed or size. Gora Station is three minutes away on foot.
